What Makes PSI Assessments So Accurate?

PSI HAS BEEN DESIGNING SELECTION AND PROMOTIONAL PROCESSES SINCE OUR INCEPTION IN 1946.

Our time in the market has enabled us to refine our assessment content to maximize each item’s ability to predict job performance (e.g., rotating in experimental content, conducting numerous validation studies, retaining those test items that are optimally predictive of job performance). As a result, our assessments far exceed the highest federal and professional thresholds for test accuracy (see Testing and Assessment: An Employer’s Guide to Good Practices, Department of Labor, 2000). As an example of the accuracy of our assessments, our EAS professional battery correlates with overall job performance at 0.57 (based on more than 160 criterion-related validation studies) – in practical terms, this means that this 20 minute assessment battery predicts 32.5% of an individual’s on-the-job-performance. As a basis of comparison, most non-PSI assessments predict less than 5% of on-the job performance. In fact, many consulting firms use PSI assessments with their own clients, given the high degree of accuracy and predictive ability of our tests.

Better Hires Better Results outlinedOUR MODULAR APPROACH ENSURES YOU GET PROVEN, RELIABLE CONTENT TARGETED TO YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS.

PSI leverages a leading edge modular approach to assessment design that optimizes prediction of job performance.  Some assessment firms choose to build tests from scratch – this “customized” approach to testing relies on building new and unproven test content, takes many months to create, capitalizes on chance error, and incurs significant client expense.  Other firms rely on “off-the-shelf” assessments – this approach is more efficient, however, given that these tests were not built specifically for the client, they are not designed to capture all relevant characteristics individuals need to possess in order to excel on the job.

The optimal approach is to leverage the benefits of both models through a modular assessment methodology.  Modular assessment batteries use brief, proven, highly targeted test modules that are each designed to measure a small set of characteristics that are needed for success in given aspects of a job.  By seamlessly pairing together a series of brief modules, you are able to target virtually all of the key characteristics needed for success in a given role.  By pairing together different sets of modules for one job versus another (or one company versus another), you are able to configure an assessment battery that is specific to each job family within each company – using proven and highly predictive test content to provide a highly customized and accurate selection process for each client.

PSI has built more than 1,800 different tests and test modules since our inception in 1946.  Our core set of 193 modules can be seamlessly configured to offer a highly accurate and comprehensive assessment battery that captures the characteristics needed for success in virtually any role, in any job function, at any level of organization across virtually all industries.
